Dr. Bala Nandakumar, presently the Associate Professor in Dance in the prestigious Sri Sathguru Sangeetha Vidyalayam, College of Music & Research Center, affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University, is the celebrity student – a disciple of Late Dr. V. Premalatha & Late. Smt. Neela Krishnamoorthy.
Dr. Bala is the versatile blend of academic brilliance and devoted dedication in the precious art form of Bharathanatyam. An exponent in the contemporary classical dance, she has won many accolades by following the traditional ‘Vazhuvoor’ style and thereby she chisels and molds her students with the intricacies and nuances. She is also an expert in executing challenging themes with her meticulous tutelage and expressive bhavas.
Dr. Bala’s Layakshetra is now successfully in the 35th year, since its inception. Layakshetra is well known for its exquisite discipline and perfection in the art form. Dr. Bala’s disciples have performed and won many laurels in the Natyanjali festivals of Chidambaram Tiruvaiyaru, Brahan Natyanjali at Tanjore. A regular contributor to the Kamban Kazhagam Festival every year at Madurai, Pondichery, Tirupattur, Kariakudi, and Rajapalayam. An affectionate and popular Dr. Bala is a talented vocalist as well.
